Tai Chi Optional Grading System

The reason for having grades is that it's a tangible way to measure your knowledge, ability, and progress. And some people like the structure it brings to their study and to their practice of the art.
The grading system will:

Grades, which are symbols of rank and achievement that are shown by the wearing of a coloured sash (or optionally a coloured t-shirt badge) are not unknown in Tai Chi but are not very common. We have had a way of grading students in Tai Chi for many years but it has always been quite casual. A request in early 2024 from a gentleman who was used to the more formal grading systems found in Japanese and Korean disciplines, prompted a revision of the issue.
The academy now has an optional but formal (curriculum based) grading system in place. The system is comprehensive and structured, and will allow both you and us to know exactly what elements of Tai Chi you are ready to learn. This will let your training be more focused and enjoyable.

4. Pre-recorded Online Training Courses
- Learn from the comfort of your home.
- 24/7/365 – as long as you have internet access you can study.
- Study completely at your own pace.
You can utilise any 1, 2, 3 or all 4 of the above methods - any mixture that suits you.
Personalized Study Plan
As part of the grading process, you’ll receive a customized study plan, ensuring steady and meaningful progress. We’ll work together to fine-tune your development so you can achieve your best at each stage.
Grading
Your actual grading assessment will be carried out when you attend either an in-person session or an in-person course, or by paying for a one-to-one Zoom session. This session whilst 'formal' will not be arduous or overly challenging, as you will not be expected to grade until both you and we consider that you are ready.
